One Bug….that’s all ya get

I had the privilege of being invited to a weekend of fishing on the Upper Delaware in the “One Bug” tourney put on by The Friends Of the Upper Delaware River a couple years back. Two days of fishing from a boat, 2 team members, 20 or so boats with guides and only one bug per angler. Fishing a tournament like this is a blast but can also elicit a fair amount of anxiety. Besides the fact that A lost fly equals elimination the anticipation of picking that one magical fly will provide restless nights prior to the tourney as you go back and forth deciding on a streamer, dry fly or even an emerger. Heck, once you’ve decided on the type of fly you then have to choose size and color and stick to your guns cause that’s the only fly you get to fish for two days unless……. Read the full post »

Opening Day

Opening Day no longer elicits thoughts of green grass, baseball diamonds and a renewed hope that the Mets will matter this year.

Opening Day is all about TROUT!

For those of you who religiously fish opening day, I admire your devotion. I’m devout but unwilling to convert to Latvian Orthodox or schedule myself out of work to participate in the ceremonies.

A Deliberate Life

Project: A Deliberate Life
There comes a time in all of our lives when we let ourselves dream about living life on our own terms. When we wrestle with the decision to take a step into traffic, follow our passions and live deliberately – or simply let another day, and daydream, pass.

This 4-minute promo video is the initial statement of intent for a much larger film project that will be set against the diverse, rugged and breathtaking Idaho landscape—and three of its most celebrated rivers: the Owyhee, Snake and Henry’s Fork.

A Deliberate Life will explore the stories of five unlikely friends (Rebecca Garlock, Colby Hackbarth, Ross Slayton, Matt Smythe and Grant Taylor) who share the same love of fly fishing and the outdoors and their choice to lead a life according to their passions.

Shoot locations: Owyhee River, South Fork of the Snake, Henry’s Fork

Shoot dates: August 29 – September 8, 2012

Principle team-members:
Grant Taylor—Photographer, granttaylorimages.com
Matt Smythe—Writer/producer, fishingpoet.com
Dustin Lutt—Cinematographer, dustyimages.com
Matt White—Cinematographer, rockhousemotion.com

Its ok , I have permission….upcoming events taken from my friend Chris’ blog of http://christopherauletta.wordpress.com/

Join TU NYC March 12 at 6:30 PM for a very special event, Flies and Pies. We’ll be serving up the pies (pizza) and you serve up the flies. With the trout season just weeks away its time to stock your fly box. Bring your vise, tools and materials and tie up some of your favorite patterns. Share tips, teach a little and tell some fish tales. This is a great opportunity for members to get to know one another and set up fishing outings.
We’re asking for a $5 donation for the Pizza and Soda. We’ll also have t-shirts and hats available for purchase and the remaining TU Pint Glasses.
